Tom Koutsoumpas, CEO of the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI), has been recognized as a Top Innovator by Modern Healthcare for 2023. The award acknowledges Koutsoumpas’ leadership in driving innovation across NPHI’s 100+ member organizations and spearheading initiatives through the NPHI’s Innovation Lab.
The Top Innovators program, featured by Modern Healthcare, highlights 25 leaders and organizations that are implementing innovative strategies and programs that generate positive results in improving care and achieving clinical and financial goals. Koutsoumpas received the award for his dedication to advancing healthcare provision and revolutionizing the industry.
Mary Ellen Podmolik, Editor-in-Chief of Modern Healthcare, states that the winners of this year’s Top Innovators program are trailblazing a path that others should follow. The honorees are making significant advancements in various areas, from streamlining administrative functions to expanding consumer’s access to care.
Apart from his role at NPHI, Koutsoumpas serves as President of Healthsperien LLC and is a co-founder and co-chair of the Coalition to Transform Advanced Care (C-TAC). He is also Chairman of the Board for Capital Caring Health (CCH), one of the largest not-for-profit advanced illness, hospice, and palliative care providers in the United States.
Established in 2015, NPHI aims to unite the expertise and innovativeness of numerous advanced illness providers. Under Koutsoumpas’ direction, NPHI serves as a driving force for aggregation and dissemination of best practices, as well as providing access to cutting-edge resources within the community-based, not-for-profit advanced illness providers.

Koutsoumpas is known for his leading roles on issues concerning Medicare, elder care, advanced illness, and hospice care. Additionally, he co-founded Act Now for Mental Health, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to expanding access to mental health services and reducing the stigma associated with mental health challenges for young adults.
