Attorneys representing Richard Allen, who is charged with killing two teenage girls in Delphi, Indiana, have filed court documents stating that their client had no involvement in the crimes. Instead, they argue that 13-year-old Abigail Williams and 14-year-old Liberty German were victims of a ritual sacrifice carried out by members of a pagan Norse religion and white nationalist group known as Odinists.
In a 136-page document, attorneys Andrew Baldwin and Brad Rozzi requested a hearing to present evidence that the search warrant for Allen’s house was based on faulty probable cause and should be suppressed. They claim that the warrant was obtained under false pretenses.
The attorneys assert that two groups of Odinists, one from the Delphi area and one from Rushville, Indiana, were investigated for their potential involvement in the crimes. They allege that investigators found multiple ritualistic symbols at the crime scene, including the positioning of Liberty’s body.
According to the defense filing, “nothing, absolutely nothing, links Richard Allen to Odinism or any religious cult.”
The Carroll County prosecutor’s office has not yet responded to the defense’s claims.
Referred to as the “Delphi Murders,” the bodies of Abigail and Liberty were found near the Monon High Bridge on February 14, 2017. Both girls had been stabbed. An FBI agent, in a search warrant request in March 2017, suggested that the scene had been manipulated and staged.
The defense filing suggests that there were “Odinism signatures” in the form of ritualistic symbols left at the crime scene. However, they claim that investigators neglected to pursue this lead. The attorneys also named several potential suspects who have not been charged in connection with the case.
Richard Allen, who resided and worked at a drug store in Delphi, has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges.
The murders of Abigail Williams and Liberty German continue to haunt the small city of Delphi, which has a population of approximately 3,000.
