Ascensia Diabetes Care, a global diabetes care company, has launched its annual art and photo competition in support of World Diabetes Day 2023. The competition’s theme, “This is Diabetes, This is Real,” aims to raise awareness of diabetes and showcase the real experiences of people living with the condition.
Diabetes affects 1 in 10 adults worldwide, and this number is projected to increase to 783 million people by 2045. With such prevalence, it is crucial to shed light on the challenges, successes, and everyday realities faced by individuals with diabetes. Ascensia’s competition invites submissions of original artwork, illustrations, photographs, and digital designs that tell personal stories of living with diabetes.
Submissions can be made at www.thisisdiabetes.com until October 31, and the winners will be announced on World Diabetes Day, which falls on November 14. The contest offers individuals of all ages and abilities the opportunity to share their unique perspective on diabetes in real life.
Rob Schumm, CEO of Ascensia Diabetes Care, expressed his enthusiasm for the competition and the powerful stories that emerge from the submissions. He encourages participants to capture the unfiltered reality of living with diabetes, showcasing both the daily struggles and proud moments associated with the condition.
Winners of the competition can donate €6,000, €3,000, or €1,000 (first, second, and third place, respectively) to a diabetes charity of their choice. The judging panel, consisting of members from the diabetes online community, professional artists, Ascensia employees, and an Eversense brand ambassador, will evaluate submissions based on creativity, storytelling, and connection to this year’s theme.
This year’s competition builds on the success of the previous years’ campaigns. In 2021 and 2022, Ascensia received over 350 entries from participants worldwide and donated €10,000 to diabetes charities across four continents.
