IV catheters boost infusion therapy at Becton Dickinson

EHM News Bureau - Bangalore

Becton Dickinson India Pvt Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of the New Jersey based Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD), a $US 4 billion healthcare company, has launched state-of-the-art Intravenous (IV) Catheters in infusion therapy.

The unique shielded Cannula BD Insyte Autoguard promises to reduce the sharp injuries to the healthcare workers substantially.

The company has also launched BD Venflon Pro, a ported IV Catheter and BD Veca-C a fixation dressing for the IV cannulae- all new generation products for better patient comfort.

The unique feature of BD Insyt is its patented BD autoguard push button shielding technology meant to effectively safeguard healthcare workers from accidental needle stick injury.

These injuries are the main source of transmission of infectious diseases in the healthcare workers. The product will be supported by a range of education and training programme for paramedic staff on the product usage. “We have developed modules to train nurses for cannulation. For the past five months we have trained as many as 3600 nurses and conducted over 205 workshops” informed Rakesh Kumar, GM, Medical Systems.

BD plans to partner with the Trained Nurses Association of India to upgrade medical practice in India and also partner with hospitals to train nurses. Though the cost of these products are higher than the cost of conventional devices the company hopes to bring down price in due course of time.”We plan to manufacture syringes which cannot be reused. However, first we need to understand the market in India” said Amardeep Chahal, Marketing Manager, Infusion Therapy.

BD is also eyeing the export market. In its first move it plans to export 10 million units of insulin syringes to China by the end of next two quarters. It is also looking at South East Asia, Bangladesh and Sri Lankan markets. BD’s plant in Haryana is the largest syringe and medical devices manufacturing plant in Asia. The company has already invested Rs 200 crores in the plant and plans continuous investment in future. The company has posted sales of $ 30 m with 20% growth of which the medical system division, the premium division of the company registered $20m sales.

BD India is a medical technology company that currently serves 600 top healthcare institutions in the country. It also serves life science researchers, clinical laboratories, industry and the general public through its safe and innovative products.

BD in India manufactures and sells a broad range of medical supplies, devices, laboratory equipment and diagnostic products.
