ISIC Starts Advanced Medical Education in Rheumatology
In a major initiative to help the future rheumatologist in the country to hone
their clinical skills, Indian Spinal Injuries Centre (ISIC), New Delhi has announced
its recognition by the National Board of Examination (NBE), Ministry of Health
& Family Welfare for the training of doctors in rheumatology for the Diploma
of NBE. ISIC claims to be the only institute in North India having the facility
to start DNB-rheumatology under the renowned Dr AN Malviya, HOD Rheumatology
and team.
"ISIC has taken a great lead in the higher Post Graduate Medical Education
in India," said Dr HS Chhabra, Medical Director, ISIC. ISIC is one of the
most advanced institutes in Asia for the management of spine, orthopaedics and
rheumatology disorder. "The three-year programme encompasses both clinical
and academic aspects of rheumatology. It will equip doctors equally well for
a career in rheumatology. The total intake of this course is two candidates
per year. We are determined to be a catalyst and have a proactive programme
for establishing a centre of excellence with empirical, applied and action oriented
education and research programmes. Development of textbooks and impact studies
will be our hallmark for the next three years," says Dr Pradeep Bhardwaj,
DMS and Head of Medical Education, ISIC.
According to Dr AN Malaviya, "In developing countries, musculoskeletal
and arthritic problems are the commonest cause of long standing disability in
adults. As the population ages, musculoskeletal problem increases and it is
essential that there are rheumatologist to deal with these problems."
ISIC will focus on developing graduate and postgraduate courses in disability
management and rehabilitation.
