Clinical Trial

Trial of Glaucoma Treatment at Aditya Jyot

Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital Pvt Ltd in association with ScyFIX (USA) is conducting a trial for treating open/wide angle glaucoma using Micro Current Stimulation (MCS).

Said Dr S Natrajan, Medical Director, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, "Glaucoma is the second leading cause of blindness in India, with many millions of people suffering from this dreaded eye disease." It is of two clinical types— open angle and angle closure glaucoma. Till date, there are limited treatment options available for its treatment in the form of eye drops, lasers and surgery.

MCS device delivers precise amount of electrical current through electrodes applied over the closed eye. The electrical current is used to stimulate cellular interaction within the eye in order to delay the progression of disease.

"The study is being performed in subjects aged 21 to 80 years who have been diagnosed with open angle glaucoma. The study hopes to control pressure inside the eye (intraocular pressure) of newly-diagnosed glaucoma patients and reduce the need for eye drops in patients already on treatment. There are minimal side effects of this therapy," he added.
