Lotus Eye Care Hospital, Coimbatore has entered the Limca Book of Records for organising an ophthalmic conference aboard a cruise liner. The conference 'Eyetrendz 2006' held during May 07, 2006 to May 11, 2006 was the first international ophthalmic conference on the Arabian Sea aboard a cruise liner. The five-day conference on the ship named Super Star Libra started from Mumbai to Lakshawdeep with a stopover at Goa and then back to Mumbai.

According to Dr Selva K Sundaramoorthy, Chairman & Managing Director, Lotus Eye Care Hospital, "Faculty from India, Singapore, the UK and the US actively participated in the conference and delegates from India and neighboring countries immensely benefited. There were about 350 participants, which includes ophthalmic doctors and their families." This conference with its theme of 'Current Practice and Future Trends' had all ingredients to cater to the intellectual needs from seasonal practitioners to post graduates with symposia, didactic lectures, keynote address, film festival and ophthalmic debates.

He further explained that the conference was academic-cum entertainment in nature. "National and international faculties updated the others about innovations in ophthalmology, current practice, and new technologies. The delegates who participated updated their knowledge and learned new techniques and technologies," he added.
