With a vision to provide the highest level of healthcare to the common man at an affordable cost, a group of NRI physicians led by Padmabhushan Dr Purshotam Lal founded the Metro Group of Hospitals.

The Group's present bed strength in Delhi-NCR is 630.

Range of Services

The Group focuses on interventional cardiology, non-invasive cardiology, cardiothoracic, vascular surgery, electrophysiology, neuro science, nephrology, renal transplant, oncology, opthalmology, orthopaedics, dentistry, dietetics, nutrition, surgery, ENT endocrinology, gastroenterology (liver and digestive diseases), paediatrics, respiratory and critical care, sleep medicine, gynaecology, medicine, internal medicine, plastic and cosmetic surgery, urology, intensive care unit and physiotherapy.

The total expenditure on IT is approximately Rs 55 to Rs 60 lakh.

Bag of Accomplishments

Dr Purshotam Lal

Chairman-cum-Director

Dr Lal has more than 20 firsts to his credit, such as slow rotational angioplasty, atherectomy, rotablator, ASD closure, aortic valve replacement without surgery and has developed many of his own techniques like left atriofemoral bypass support, and mitral valvuloplasty without the use of cath lab. He has been designated as the first investigator of inoue balloon valvuloplasty and percutaneous aortic valve replacement in India.

The Hospital has also pioneered a large number of techniques in different specialities, like laser treatment for tracheal stenosis.

Dr Lal has been awarded Dr VV Shah Oration Gold Medal by Cardiological Society of India in 1992, Life Time Achievement Award by Delhi Medical Association in 2002, Padmabhushan in 2003, and Dr BC Roy National Award in 2005. His name has been listed several times in Limca Book of Records for coronary atherectomy, ASD closure, multiple hole closure, rotablator and acholysis. He is also noted for performing the largest number of angioplasties (2,000) in a year in the country as a single operator.

This ISO 9001-2000 certified Hospital is approved for postgraduation in cardiology (DNB), diploma course in cardiology and fellowship in critical care.

On Concessions

It organises regular free health check-up camps all over North India including Government offices/corporates/RWAs. "For economically-backward patients, maximum possible concession is given and sometimes we waive the entire treatment cost on humanitarian grounds," says Dr Lal.

Two New Hospitals

In the pipeline are two super-speciality hospitals—a 250-bed project in Nand Nagri (Delhi) and a 200-bed facility in Greater Noida for which land has already been acquired.

These two greenfield projects are expected to be operational within two years. In addition, a new 200-bed multi-speciality hospital is coming up in place of the existent 80-bed Metro Hospital in Faridabad. This project will be operational by September 2008. "The funds are being generated by equity with GE Capital, US," says Dr Lal. The Group is set to cover the entire metropolitan area.
