NPSS to open Personalised Dialysis Care Centre

Nana Palkar Smruti Samiti (NPSS), a Mumbai-based NGO, proposes to open a separate unit for peritoneal dialysis (PD) at Parel, Mumbai. Scheduled to be inaugurated by Dr Ajit Gangadhar Phadke, President of NPSS, the Centre would offer in-depth counseling, training and also provide the apparatus required for PD at a subsidised rate.

"Chronic renal disease is a serious cause of concern and PD is an effective and safe Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) option. A good understanding of the PD procedure can actually make dialysis convenient. And with organisations like NPSS coming forward to help, the impact of kidney failure can be cushioned," said Dr Viswanath Billa, Consultant Nephrologist and Kidney Transplant expert at the Bombay Hospital and Medical Research Centre.

"End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD) is a growing health concern in India due to the high number of diabetes patients in the country. We at the NPSS plug in our efforts to help reduce the effect of the disease by providing all kinds of support, starting from counseling to providing PD apparatus and the requisite training to the patients," said Dr Phadke.

Kidney failure is a silent epidemic all across the world, with diabetic patients most at risk of suffering from ESRD.

PD is a popular renal replacement therapy. But at the same time, dialysis is expensive with most patients unable to continue with the recurring cost. Hence, such efforts as PDCC can be expected to provide respite to all who are currently unable to afford the cure.
