Ruby Hall Clinic incurs a loss of Rs 50 lakh

Pune's Ruby Hall Clinic (RHC) has estimated a loss of Rs 50 lakh due to fire, which broke out on June 24, this year. The loss is due to damage of air conditioning and electrical system in the Hospital.

The fire occurred at around six o'clock, when the batteries in Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) connected to the MRI machine caught fire due to short circuit. "The reasons for the short circuit are still not clear and the imported UPS supplied by Philips has been sent to France for further investigation," informed Bomi Bhote, CEO, RHC.

The rubber of the batteries on fire created a swathe of smoke which spread across the Hospital in minutes. All 505 patients present in the Hospital at the time were evacuated to the safer place and no causality was reported. "We faced a major difficulty while removing the smoke from the Hospital premises. The glasses were ruptured and blower fans were put at various locations to remove the smoke gathered," informed Bhote. The fire was controlled in three hours. The crowd, Hospital staff, police and fire fighting personnel said to have played remarkable role in the rescue operation as well as in controlling the situation.

After this episode, RHC administration has decided to make extra facilities for smoke evacuation in the building by making more exit points at various locations and putting blower fans in common areas of the Hospital.
