India has made rapid strides in the health sector in the recent past. According
to the FICCIErnst & Young Study, healthcare spending in the country,
currently around 0.9 per cent of GDP could contribute around 6.05 per cent of
GDP and around nine million people by 2012. In other words, the healthcare industry
could be one of the major driving forces behind the Indian economy with increasing
opportunities in areas like health insurance, medical infrastructure and equipment,
telemedicine, clinical trials.
Symbiosis Centre of Healthcare has identified some of the key healthcare areas
to be discussed and deliberated upon during its Annual National Seminar on Hospital
and Healthcare Management and Medico legal systems. In its IX year of hosting
the National Seminar, SCHC has invited prominent industry leaders who will share
their viewpoints and hold open discussions with delegates on important topics
as they relate to quality and the business of healthcare. The objective of the
seminar is to deliberate upon the emerging trends in the healthcare sector and
identify the role of hospitals administrators and other decision makers involved,
in view of the changing healthcare environment and challenges placed before
them. Scheduled to be held from the 10th-13th May 2007 at Symbiosis Vishwabhavan,
Pune, the Seminar will open with three parallel pre-conference symposia on hospital
accreditation, clinical research and health insurance.
The pre-conference symposium on accreditation is being hosted in association
with the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers
(NABH), Quality Council of India with the aim to create awareness and educate
healthcare providers about the accreditation process. The second pre-conference
symposium on Health Insurance presents the principles and practices of health
insurance in India, its present and future perspective, the range of products
available in the country, the role of TPAs and healthcare providers in health
insurance. Invited speakers include representatives from the regulatory body
i.e. IRDA as well as private and public players.
The third symposium on clinical research is being hosted in association with
the ICMR with a view of creating awareness on general methodology and training
processes in various aspects of clinical research. The symposium will cover
clinical research and its adjunct issues like lack of formal training programmes,
legal and ethical aspects, impact of globalisation on the healthcare sector
(India is a signatory to GATT/GATS/ TRIPS) etc that need to be brought to the
notice of the health care providers. Besides, a pre conference symposium dedicated
to clinical research, this topic of extreme current relevance would also be
addressed through various other sessions through out the four days of the Seminar.
The Seminar registration is open to everyone interested in aspects of medical
litigation and healthcare management. Medical, hospital management and law students
are particularly encouraged to attend.
