Asian Heart Awards 10 Cardiac Patients

The Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation Department of Mumbai's Asian Heart Institute (AHI), held a 'Brave Heart' Awards, felicitating the achievements of heart patients who had undergone mammoth surgeries but who had shown a positive response to the institute's Cardiac Rehabilitation support programme, post surgery. "Society has this mental block that life ends when a person has a heart diseases. But we want to create a positive outlook," asserts Dr Aashish Contractor, HOD, Preventive Cardiology and Rehabilitation, AHI. Like any other award ceremony, awards were bestowed upon 10 patients in categories like 'Mr Smoke Free', 'Stress Buster', 'Most Regular Patient', 'Young at Heart', 'Best Runner', 'The Warriors', 'Special Awards', and finally the 'Wonder Woman' and 'Superman Award'. There were four nominees for each category. The recipient of each award category had breathtaking anecdotes to narrate to a packed audience of the manner in which their life took a complete U-turn. Dr Contractor announced the coming up of The Enhanced External Counter Pulsation ( EECP) at the centre. Again, Dr Ramakanta Panda, Vice Chairman and Consultant Cardio-Thoracic Surgeon announced, "In another six months' time, we will be coming up with a new cardiac rehabilitation centre. Along with an orthopaedics and diabetes clinic, this new centre will also have a jacuzzi and massage centre for patients."
