European Congress of Radiology
The
European Congress of Radiology (ECR) is one of the largest medical events in
Europe and the second-largest radiological meeting in the world, attracting
more than 16,000 participants from 92 countries. It has been hosted by the city
of Vienna in the heart of Europe since 1991, taking advantage of the town's
unique geopolitical location and its world-famous cultural riches.
Being a trend-setting, dynamic and service-oriented congress,
ECR is well-known as one of the most innovative meetings within the scientific
community, setting new standards in IT solutions and advanced science and technology,
embedded in a unique and inspiring ambience. The state-of-the-art science is
presented in over 260 scientific and educational sessions, around 800 proffered
papers and 1,000 electronic scientific exhibits. Key experts from all over the
world share their knowledge and latest research findings in all fields of medical
imaging.
The focus on high quality congress management led to the launch of a completely
new Electronic Presentation Online System (EPOS). In addition, much valued
e-learning tools such as EURORAD, EDIPS Download, and eECR, emphasise ECR's
commitment to continuing education.
A major mission of ECR is dedication to the youth, with its
'Invest in the Youth' programme, the congress takes pride in providing financial
assistance to 400 young radiologists from all over the world, with a focus on
East European countries, who otherwise wouldn't have had the chance to visit
the meeting and to improve their knowledge. Thus ECR has established itself
as an esteemed forum for the young who cherish the expertise and the international
platform for exchange.
The upcoming ECR takes place from March 9-13, 2007. Its motto,
'Imaging generations', refers to the unique position radiology and imaging methods
have in providing healthcare and help to our patients. Moreover, it reflects
the fact that several generations of radiologists are now making use of the
most modern imaging technologies and are therefore themselves driving new developments,
which are arriving at a breath-taking speed.
ECR 2007, therefore, is dedicated to excellence in innovation,
communication, and education. The educational programme will be further expanded,
especially in the interactive teaching tracks. Two interactive teaching courses,
as well as many interactive teaching sessions will guarantee a unique learning
experience. A new categorical course on multidetector CT will attract large
crowds. An e-learning centre with the possibility for voluntary self assessment
will complement the lectures and interactive teaching sessions.
And following a well-liked tradition, ECR will again welcome
three nations within its special ECR meets programme, this year
saluting China, the Czech Republic and Austria. In 2008, ECR will have the honour
to greet India as its special guest, thus encouraging a liaison that will certainly
inspire new and fruitful co-operations.
ECR is traditionally accompanied by an exceptional technical
exhibition spanning 25,000 m². In 2006, over 200 companies from 24 nations
followed the call to Vienna to show their newest products and latest developments
in regard to medical equipment, networking solutions, and innovations in every
radiology-related aspect. For 2007 one can again expect radiology's major players
to take their chances and set the scene for the future of medical imaging.
