Clairvoyance 2006 To Kick Off In December

EHM News Bureau

The TISS campus at Mumbai

The School of Health Systems Studies (SHSS) of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) is in a state of continual buzz these days with the preparation of their upcoming annual event— Clairvoyance.

Clairvoyance 2006, designed as a national level healthcare management conference, will be held from December 8-10, 2006 at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. It will see an unprecedented gathering of industry bigwigs, leaders, and experts in the field of hospital and healthcare management. The theme for this year being 'Professional Management in Healthcare: Arching for the Zenith', the conference focuses on the cutting-edge issue of how professional management practices, concepts and models can help the healthcare sector to realise its full potential. It also looks at challenges that the system and the decision makers have to face in their quest to improve healthcare. The sub themes of the conference will reflect upon the corner stones of management and cover topics as varied as financial management to quality management to information technology management and human resource development in the hospital and healthcare sector.

The SHSS, under whose aegis Clairvoyance is being planned, was initiated in TISS (a deemed university) in 1993. It contributes towards health policy planning and administration, through its four centres in public health and epidemiology; health systems management, health and development and social sciences and health. It provides both masters degree and diploma courses for hospital and healthcare administration. It takes delight in being the WHO Collaborating Centre for ‘Health Policy Research & Training’. The alumni association of the school is an official executive group of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), Chicago, USA. The alumni of this department have made an incontestable contribution in shaping the hospital and health sector not only in India, but internationally as well.

Apart from providing a common platform for the best in the healthcare industry to network and share their insights and wisdom through Clairvoyance, the school allows its students of hospital and healthcare management an opportunity to practice their organisational skills as they are about to enter the healthcare management arena. The conference, having participants from hospitals, healthcare organisations (national and international) and related firms such as health insurance companies, healthcare consultancy groups, Government agencies, biomedical and pharmaceutical companies, gives the potential employers visiting the campus an opportunity to interact with the students.

All in all, Clairvoyance 2006 will act as a forum to bring the stalwarts of the healthcare sector on a common platform to discuss contemporary issues in healthcare. In keeping with the reputation of the institute, the conference, with its theme of professional management, aims to play an important role in extending management beyond the realms of business and industry to areas of social relevance such as health and hospital administration.
