PD Hinduja Hospital Installs LightSpeed VCT
EHM News Bureau
Mumbai's PD Hinduja Hospital has recently installed the LightSpeed VCT machine.
What makes LightSpeed an attractive package is the ability to non-invasively
capture any organ in one second, scan the whole body in less than 10 seconds,
and capture images of the heart and coronaries in fewer than five heartbeats.
Right now, GE is the sole company in India manufacturing LightSpeed VCT machine.
Currently, Jaslok Hospital in Mumbai is the only other hospital in the city
to have installed the VCT machine.
The machine includes 5-Beat Cardiac, which enable physicians to secure extremely
high-quality images of coronaries at sub-millimeter resolution in only five
beats of the heart. This capability will potentially make diagnostic evaluation
of arterial stenosis faster and less invasive than catheter angiography. Other
striking feature is the Triple Rule Out, which is capable to diagnose and scan
quickly and non-invasively, using the LightSpeed VCT, for evidence of heart
attack, pulmonary embolism or aortic dissection, all in one single scan. This
is especially useful for emergency cases of acute chest pain.
In addition, LightSpeed VCT has a feature called Stroke Work-up. Once a stroke
occurs, it is commonly believed that treatment must be delivered within an hour
or less to ensure the best outcome for the patient. Stroke Work-up offers the
speed and resolution required for rapid examination of blood vessels in the
brain (perfusion studies), enabling doctors to make a quick diagnosis of stroke
and extent of damage.
