Hiranandani Conducts Live Computer-aided Knee Replacement Surgery

EHM News Bureau

Live surgeries can bring a chill down your spine for many reasons. But that did not stop Dr Sanjeev Jain, Consultant, Joint Replacement and Hip Resurfacing Surgeon, Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, from demonstrating a minimal invasive computer-aided knee replacement surgery. The surgery was further relayed via Reliance Web World across four cities viz — Nasik, Indore, Raipur and Jaipur. The surgery was conducted along with Dr Peter Scharf from Germany.

When asked about the purpose of the surgery, Dr Jain told Express Healthcare Management, "Basically, a minimally invasive computer-aided knee replacement surgery is a new technique. This live surgery was to show and teach surgeons about the basic aspects of the surgery." This is an upcoming surgery, which is creating waves in the orthopaedic circles. Also, a minimally invasive surgery is a blessing in disguise, both for the surgeon as well as the patient. It helps the surgeon with a precise alignment of joints and balancing of tissues, while for the patient it helps in faster recovery and higher life expectancy. So, why it was not relayed in metro cities? "In the metros, such surgeries have already taken place. It is the semi-urban areas where such surgeries should be highlighted," replied Dr Jain.
