Jaslok Hospital Introduces 3T MRI Machine
EHM News Bureau
Jaslok
Hospital & Research Centre, Mumbai, has installed a new high-end 3 Tesla
(3T) MRI machine with TIM (total imaging matrix) technology from Siemens.
According to Dr Shrinivas B Desai, Director-Department of Imaging and Interventional
Radiology, Jaslok Hospital, "This technology will redefine MRI performance
standards and facilitate early diagnosis of spectrum of diseases, including
cancer. This machine is ultra fast, makes less noise and has wider magnet, thereby
providing comfort to the patients. This MRI will be a benchmark for MRI technology
standards for years to come."
He further added that this is the most advanced MRI machine in the world and
only of its kind in India. "It is faster than any other available MRI machines
in the world, thereby reducing the examination time for the patient. It has
inbuilt features for a quiet, comfortable health experience for patients. It
allows doctors to perform full body scans as well as advanced diagnostic applications
in areas of brain, heart, joints, vessels etc," he added.
Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DIT) of brain, accurate assessment of joint problems,
early detection of cancer with total body imaging, better assessment of brain
diseases due to high-grade spectroscopy, early diagnosis and possible treatment
of stroke with advanced diffusion/perfusion techniques, total body angiogram
in very short time are few of the features of this new machine.
Col M Masand, Director General, Jaslok Hospital, said, "Jaslok Hospital
has always remained in the forefront of medical advances and has established
the reputation of always introducing the best and newer medical technologies
first in the country. Keeping in line with this, we have installed this first
high-end 3T MRI with TIM technology."
Dr R K Anand, Medical Director, Jaslok Hospital, said, "With this new technology,
patients needing MRI scans will feel more comfortable and individual scan time
will be significantly reduced."
