Team Healthcare Charts Ambitious Plans For Indian Nurses

EHM News Bureau

Isaac Ullatil

There has been enough news on how nurses in India are duped into fake fulfillment of their dreams to work in foreign countries. Team Healthcare World (THW) is an organisation which is showing serious concerns in this matter and have decided to assist all those nurses wanting to go abroad and work by providing them a US degree conforming to the US and British hospital regulations. THW is a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based Innovative Healthcare Group Inc (IHG) and have been providing training to Indian nurses since 2001.

In India, THW is present in Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi and plans to be visible in Chandigarh, Ahmedabad and Kottayam by mid-2007. THW specialises in recruiting international nurses to the United States. It has affiliations with established US universities and healthcare facilities.

THW is one of the few US corporations to own and operate sourcing and training centres in India, Dubai, the Philippines and the UK and their curriculum is designed according to US healthcare system standards. The approach by THW in assisting an Indian nurse to a 'One Stop' access at no cost to best healthcare training programmes, immigration assistance and direct placement programmes with leading US hospitals has been the prime reason for them to attract top talent. Last year, THW provided employment to 350 nurses from India. So, are they making losses by spending almost USD 10,000 on a single nurse? Not at all. As the hospitals pay THW at cost plus after they get a competent nurse.

This might lead us to think THW is actually encouraging brain drain from India. To this, Isaac Ullatil, Worldwide CEO for THW replies, "THW has positioned itself as a common gateway for top Indian nursing talent to leading hospitals in the US, which in turn would provide appreciation for Indian nurses. This would lead to US healthcare institutions to invest in India for education and outsourcing patient care/hospital projects." THW is also actively involved in holding seminars and conferences all over India regarding the precautions that nurses should take while planning to go and work abroad.

THW has eight more projects lined up for the future targetting physical therapists, radiation specialists, X-Ray technicians, pharmacists, speech therapists etc. THW is also planning to set up a university in India.
