A Challenge Turned Into An Opportuniy

Dr Ravindra Karanjekar, General Manager, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai, is always full of anecdotes. The recent one was while he was working as CEO of D Y Patil Medical College, and how he turned an official disadvantage to an advantage for the society. One of the challenges that he faced was to have eight OPD patients and five in-patients for every medical student admitted for MBBS as per the MCI norms. "We used to send out buses to villages, where community health workers used to screen patients and get them to hospitals, if they so required. While they used to get ample out-patients and in-patient every day, it served the purpose of providing free treatment to the poor," he says.
