All Set To Be Booked In Limca Book Of Records

Dr Vijay D Shetty, an orthopaedic surgeon from Mumbai-based Dr L H Hiranandani Hospital, is selected to be entered in the Limca Book of Records because of a total knee replacement performed by him on a 72-year-old lady, which made her go home after two days.

This is the shortest length of hospital stay ever, after a standard primary total knee replacement for any patient. "The reason to use this 25-year-old technique is that it is tested well and so is easy to convince patients to go for the same," avers Dr Shetty. The operation was performed on Ahalya Salian at the A J Shetty Hospital, Mangalore, in April this year. The average length of hospital stay after a standard primary total knee replacement is 7-10 days. "It was all possible mainly due to excellent patient education, improved surgical and anaesthetic techniques, and we were quick in mobilising her," quips Dr Shetty.
