Sysmex Asia Pacific Scientific Seminar
Sysmex Corporation (Japan), a respected name in diagnostics across the world
and currently leading the Haematology segment in Asia, hosted their 1st International
Scientific Seminar in Singapore recently. The event was held to herald in the
change of name for their Singapore operations from Sysmex Singapore Pte Ltd
to Sysmex Asia Pacific Pte Ltd.
A first-of-its-kind event, it broke away from norms and attempted to bring knowledge,
talent and expertise on one common international platform. Sysmex has a strong
presence in India through its collaboration with Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd.
About 250 luminaries from the Asia-Pacific diagnostic world attended the Seminar.
Needless to say, the Sysmex Transasia contingent from India was the biggest
among 27 participating countries, with 50 key opinion leaders from across the
length and breadth of India attending the Seminar on behalf of Sysmex Transasia,
showcasing the immense popularity that Transasia enjoys amongst the Indian diagnostic
world. Transasia MD Suresh Vazirani and his team were at the forefront ensuring
a high-level participation in the Seminar.
On the other hand Indians are also creating waves in the international diagnostic
world. Prof Pranav Sinha LKH, Klagenfurt, Austria gave an interesting insight
into `Challenges Facing Large Laboratories and their Solution'. Prof Mike Borowitz
from John Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore, USA, also proved to be very
impressive in his sessions. The noteworthy fact was that doctors from our contingent
like Dr M B Agarwal, Dr V P Antia, Dr Amardas Gupta and Dr Milind Bhide chaired
some of these sessions.
Sysmex has always taken a keen interest in the partnerships that they foster
and India is a very important market on their business map as a hub for manufacturing
and export to various neighbouring countries. The two giants have further cemented
their relationship by signing an agreement, which extends the span and validity
of their existing arrangement till 2014. They are eyeing a target of achieving
3,000 installations by mid-2006.
The existing understanding takes on a new dimension with Sysmex deciding to
invest substantially in infrastructure activities, manufacturing of reagents
and new product development in India under the Sysmex Transasia umbrella. The
objective is to reduce the cost of manufacturing and make these products and
services very competitive in the current market. The biggest beneficiaries will
be centres providing quality blood analysis.
The agreements were signed by Hisahi Ietsugu (President & CEO, Sysmex Corporation,
Japan) Dr. Michael Bartels (Managing Director, Sysmex Asia Pacific Pte Ltd),
Takashi Ono (Chairman, Sysmex Transasia Bio-Medicals Pvt Ltd), Koji Tamura (Executive
Vice President, International Business Administration, Sysmex Corporation) on
behalf of Sysmex and Suresh Vazirani (Managing Director, Transasia Bio-Medicals
Ltd) on behalf of Transasia.
