AIIMS To Organise ‘EndoSURG 2006’

The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is all set to hold ‘Endosurg 2006’ - an international conference on Minimal Access Surgery (MAS) and live workshop at its campus from March 10-12, 2006. The conference will be accompanied with the inaugural conference of Indian Hernia Society. The highlight of the two-day conference would be live demonstration of various common and uncommon laparoscopic procedures (cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Heller’s myotomy, Fundoplication, adrenalectomy, nephrectomy, splenectomy, Video presentations of different laparoscopic procedures and panel discussions.

According to Prof Mahesh C Misra, Prof of Surgery and Head (Minimally Invasive Surgery) who is the Organising Chairman for Endosurg 2006, over 800 delegates are likely to attend this event.

Besides laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the Minimal Access Techniques have been accepted as the standard of care for many other indications such as fundoplication for GERD, adrenalectomy, splenectomy, incisional and ventral hernia repair, informs Prof Misra.

The conference will encompass live demonstration of various common and uncommon laparoscopic procedures (cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, Heller’s myotomy, Fundoplication, adrenalectomy, nephrectomy, splenectomy, Video presentations of different laparoscopic procedures. These will provide the opportunity to witness live operations of laparoscopic and other minimal access approaches to common surgical diseases usually dealt with by general and gastrointestinal surgeons. Distinguished national and international faculty will perform the laparoscopic procedures.

On the March 10, there will be a televideo-conferencing from New York on morbid obesity surgery. Laparoscopic Bowel Surgery is yet another important aspect of the Endosurg 2006, which will cover laparoscopic assisted abdomino - perineal resection and laparoscopic rectopexy, laparoscopic assisted other bowel surgery. Another highlight will be use of laparoscopy in intestinal and thyroid surgery and Pancreatico deudonal resection. Also, live-related liver resection for liver transplant will be done laparapscopically, depending on the patient availability.

A very important feature of the conference would be inaugural conference of Indian Hernia Society and subsequently, hernia day. The main aim of the Society is to promote standardised training and teaching, conduct research present the results in journals so all can benefit from this.

On the hernia day, the focus would be on Endo-hernia repair and other common repairs for groin hernia, anatomical landmarks and pitfalls in groin hernia repair, trans-abdominal pre-peritoneal hernia repair (TAPP), total extra-peritoneal hernia repair (TEP), recurrent hernia repair etc.

In order to make delegates familiar with Information technology, there are special sessions on digital video recording and editing, digital photography, power point presentation, use of MS Office particularly using MS Excel for data management. Along side, there will be a trade exhibition by leading players from India and abroad.
