Polycom & Space Hospital To Organise Telemedicine Conf

EHM News Bureau - Hyderabad

Polycom, in association with Space Hospitals, is organising a telemedicine conference “‘MediTec 2006” at the Hitex Exhibition Centre in Hyderabad. This meet will bring together medical professionals, IT administrators, CIOs of hospitals across India to address the growing concerns in the health sector.

The event will provide a platform to share some insights into the technological advancement in healthcare. Telemedicine is increasingly been adopted by paramedics in various fields to obtain instructions or opinions in remote places.

Inadequate infrastructures of telecommunications, roads and transport have make it difficult to provide healthcare in distant and rural areas and to transport patients properly. Even if clinics and hospitals exist in rural areas, they are often ill-equipped and especially, outside urban areas, which is beyond the reach of normal communications.

According to Yugal Sharma, Country Manager, Polycom, “The latest changes in the field of information technology and telecommunications have opened a new era by improving quality of healthcare, better access to the system as well as cost effectiveness.

“Telecommunications has paved the way for addressing health issues in countries with limited medical expertise and resources. An event like this will only help in growth of technology,” he says.

Telemedicine services have the potential to improve both quality and access to healthcare, regardless of geography. They enable medical and healthcare expertise to be accessed by under-served locations, he adds.

Dr Ravi, CEO of Space Hospitals says, “Telemedicine will facilitate solutions for emergency medical assistance, long distance consultation, supervision, assurance, education and training for healthcare professionals and providers. It will also help in combating tropical diseases, more so in a country like India with diseases and illness that require monitoring at regular intervals.”
