Hinduja Hospital launches breast clinic

EHM News Bureau - Mumbai

With the objective of treating the entire spectrum of Breast diseases under one roof, P D Hinduja National Hospital & Medical Research Centre has launched a breast clinic. The clinic provides an integrated service staffed by a dedicated multidisciplinary team specialising in the assessment, diagnosis, counseling and treatment of all benign and malignant breast diseases.

The breast clinic maintains the highest standard of professional care expected at the P D Hinduja National Hospital. It brings together disciplines including surgery, medicine, radiology, pathology, nursing and psychology to better coordinate the management of breast disease.

At the breast clinic, the patient will be examined by a surgeon, and if required would be asked to undergo a mammography and sonography of the breast. The patient may undergo further evaluation including FNAC. The patients will also be counseled about breast self-examination and screening programmes.

India is seeing an increasing trend in the incidence of breast cancer. It has overtaken cancer of the cervix as the most common female malignancy in the Indian metros.

The incidence of breast cancer in the big cities of India ranges from 20 - 30 / 100,000 women. Not all breast lumps are malignant or cancerous. The personnel in a breast clinic are ideally trained to detect breast cancer at an early stage. Occasionally even before one can feel the lump. The cure in breast cancer can be achieved without removing the entire breast.
