New dialysis centre inaugurated at St Martha’s Hospital

EHM News Bureau - Bangalore

M V Rajashekaran, Minister of State, inaugurated a state-of-the-art dialysis centre managed by Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology (MINU) for Planning, Government of India at St Martha’s Hospital. The centre capable of performing over 300 dialysis every month, will offer dialysis services for patients with kidney failure. It will also provide dialysis for very sick patients in ICU, peritoneal dialysis and inpatient and outpatient services for kidney diseases.

According to R Basil, CEO, Manipal Hospital and Manipal Health Systems, “St Martha’s Hospital is a renowned missionary hospital that has been serving the society for the past 120 years. We at Manipal Hospital have a similar missionary culture and it is a pleasure for us to be associated with the hospital.”

Said Dr Sudarshan Ballal, director and consultant nephrologist, Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology, “More than 200,000 people develop severe kidney failure every year in India. Unfortunately, a large percentage of them go undetected and many others do not receive proper medical attention due to lack of funds or facilities. The need of the hour is a comprehensive and affordable renal care program that is available to the masses located in various parts of the city and that precisely is why St Martha’s Hospital and Manipal Hospital have joined hands.”

Said Commodore I A D’Cunha, administrator, St Martha’s Hospital, I have no doubt that with the philosophy of St Martha’s and the administrative and technical competence of Manipal Hospital, the Dialysis Centre inaugurated today will go a long way in providing another much needed state-of-the-art medical facility to the poor and needy of Bangalore.” Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology (MINU) has one of the largest dialysis centres in the country, where over 2500 dialysis are performed every month.
