RCS to offer British trauma course for medical students in India
Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the oldest of the royal surgical colleges in the United Kingdom has for the first time, rolled out its pre-hospital trauma course for medical students in India. The course will be conducted from 7th to 9th October at Ahmedabad. The College, which has completed 500 years of its inception this year, will offer the course through its faculty of prehospital care.

Experts thrash strategy to curb infection in hospitals
There is a rise in infection rate in Indian hospitals leading to serious consequences. Such a situation is attributed to hospitals’ reluctance to invest in infection control, lack of awareness and improper waste management, averred Dr Ajita Mehta, president, Hospital Infection Society of India (HIS) at the conclave for Infection Leaders conference in the city recently.

Rare heart surgery performed at MIOT hospitals
MIOT multi-specialty hospital, Chennai performed a unique heart surgery on 24-year-old patient Kala, who was suffering from hole in the heart (Ventricular Septal Defect), an opening ductus arteriosus that failed to close at birth. In addition, she had a large aneurysm of pulmonary artery.

New dialysis centre inaugurated at St Martha’s Hospital
M V Rajashekaran, Minister of State, inaugurated a state-of-the-art dialysis centre managed by Manipal Institute of Nephrology and Urology (MINU) for Planning, Government of India at St Martha’s Hospital. The centre capable of performing over 300 dialysis every month, will offer dialysis services for patients with kidney failure. It will also provide dialysis for very sick patients in ICU, peritoneal dialysis and inpatient and outpatient services for kidney diseases.
