20th annual conference of CSI to focus on preventive cardiology
EHM News Bureau - New Delhi
Preventive cardiology will be the hallmark of the 20th annual conference of
Cardiological Society of India (CSI) organised by the Delhi chapter of CSI on
October 8-9, 2005 at India habitat Centre, New Delhi. The theme of the conference
is Prevention to Intervention and Controversies to Consensus: Where we
are today and where are we going?
Over 600 delegates attending the conference will include
physicians, cardiologists, interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, vascular
surgeons, paediatric cardiologists, paediatric cardiac surgeons, cardiac anaesthesiologists,
among others. According to Dr H K Chopra, secretary, CSI, the conference will
have interesting scientific sessions, focusing on advances and innovations,
including recent advances in clinical cardiology, preventive cardiology, hypertension,
congestive heart failure, dyslipidemia, coronary artery disease, cardio-diabetes,
metabolic syndrome, echocardiography, electrophysiology and cardiac arrhythmia,
interventional cardiology, cardiovascular surgery and cardiac anaesthesia, atherosclerosis,
arrythmias, cath ablation and electrophysiology, cardiac resynchronisation therapy,
valvular heart diseases, among others.
The conference would also have a medi-expo exhibiting a wide range of products:
pharmaceutical products, medical equipment, insurance schemes, surgical and
medical equipment, interventional cardiological equipment, echocardiography
and health and fitness equipment.
In India, the incidences of coronary artery disease (CAD) are on the rise,
so much so that India has earned the dubious distinction of being called as
the capital of CAD. The focus will be on practical oriented ways to help patients
and also on cardiology practices, which family physicians should know, adds
Dr Chopra.
Says Dr (Col) S K Parashar, president, CSI Delhi branch, associated with the
Society since its inception, The conference will educate young doctors
and family physicians who are not exposed to international trends and treatment
modalities taking place.
As cardiology and its various sub-specialties have
developed significantly in the last few years, it is difficult for practicing
physicians and cardiologists to keep abreast of various advances in these fields.
