guidelines on umbilical cord blood banking in the offing
Responding to the increasing demand of umbilical cord blood,
super cells that are harvested to cure a gamut of malignancies
like leukaemia, Hodgkins disease, varieties of anaemia
and inherited metabolic disorders, the Indian Council for
Medical Research (ICMR), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT)
and the Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) will now issue
guidelines on umbilical cord blood banking facilities as part
of the policy on stem cell research.
