Clinical laboratory registration: Is it a practical approach?
It is heartening to note that Delhi government has taken an initiative and drafted the Delhi Diagnostic Centres and Labora-tories Registration (DDCLR). The final draft of DDCLR was discussed with representatives of medical profession and administration recently in a meeting presided by the Minister of Health, government of Delhi.

Medical labs and pathologist
The role of pathology laboratories in healthcare and management of patients is undisputed but sadly are not given their due importance. The reasons are many fold but the root cause appears to be the diminishing role of pathologist as a key person in the laboratory.

Clinical laboratories in patient care
The advances in the field of microelectronics, information technology and robotics along with the advances in laboratory medicine have transformed patient care delivery in the last decade. The strides taken by the biomedical scientists have largely contributed to the identification and diagnosis of new diseases and also discovered new facets of old diseases which will change the way we will deliver medical care in the next decade.

Importance of reference pathology laboratory in medical diagnostics
The role of reference clinical laboratory is increasingly gaining importance in the evolving healthcare industry. Reference laboratory generally performs highly specialised tests like hormone assays, drug assays, tumor marker studies, genetic tests, microbiological tests and histopathological investigations.

Safeguarding the future of your child
In India, just like its population, the disease burden is also increasing rapidly. Some of these diseases/disorders, however, can be controlled if diagnosed and treated on time. Poor mental and physical growth is one such problem, which not only affects the entire lifecycle of children but also causes a lot of trauma to the parents and family of the patient alike.

Investigations for Diabetes Mellitus
Glucose is essentially used as a screening parameter. Values are highly diet dependent and drug intake influence the results. The main advantage is that it is one of the most standardised parameters, that even patients can self determine the results by home monitoring metres.

Real Time PCR: Latest advancement in diagnostics
The advent of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) by Kary B Mullins in the mid 1980s revolutionised molecular biology. PCR is a fairly standard procedure now, and its use is extremely wide-ranging. At its most basic application, PCR can amplify a small amount of template DNA (or RNA) into large quantities in a few hours.
