Govt of Tripura signs MoU with Dr Lal PathLabs for services in diagnostic sector

EHM News Bureau - Mumbai

World-class diagnostic services with optimal turn around time will now be available for the people of Tripura as government of Tripura entered into a partnership in the field of diagnostics with Dr Lal PathLabs (LPL) headquartered at Delhi. According to the MoU, LPL will provide complete pathology diagnostic services to supplement healthcare services provided by the Government.

This is for the first time that any state government in India has entered into an agreement with a private pathology operator to provide high-class diagnostic services for its people. The cost of setting up the first fully automated diagnostic laboratory at Dr PB Das Memorial Diagnostic Centre is approximately one crore and was dedicated to the people of Tripura by chief minister of Tripura, Manik Sarkar. Also present on the occasion were Tapan Chakraborti, minister for health & family welfare, government of Tripura, RK Mathur, chief secretary, SK Roy, commissioner, H&FW and Dr Arvind Lal, chairman and managing director (CMD), Dr Lal PathLabs Pvt Ltd.

The lab will function as a centralised diagnostic center for pathology services. The resources and infrastructure will be provided by LPL. The collection centers will send its samples to the main lab and test results of these samples will be printed directly in the collection centers. To extend the reach to smaller towns and rural areas, LPL will also be setting up sample collection all over the state of Tripura. Accreditation from prestigious institutes like National Accreditation Board for Testing & Calibration Lab (NABL) and ISO 9001:2000 would be obtained for the Tripura laboratory in due course of time.

The laboratory will now become a part of the National Pathology Grid, a pioneering concept of LPL. This Grid connects the entire country into a network of most sophisticated laboratory systems with the help of the state-of-the-art software and satellite communications, resulting in a “hands-free” environment for generating error free results.

Diagnosis of blood cancer, infertility, hormonal imbalances, diabetes, coronary artery disease, different types of anaemias and many others tests will be available.

Dr S R Deb Barma, director of health services, Tripura, said, “We welcomed the efforts of Dr Arvind Lal and hoped the people of the State would derive benefit from this venture”. Said Dr Arvind Lal, “We hope that other state governments would follow suit and emulate the Tripura Government in giving impeccable support in other PPP ventures.”
