Teleradiology Solutions becomes 1st JCAHO accredited Indian body
Falaknaaz Syed - Mumbai
Teleradiology Solutions, a leading provider of teleradiology
services to hospitals in the US and India, has recently become the first Indian
healthcare company to be fully accredited by the Joint Commission of Accreditation
of Healthcare Organisations (JCAHO).
This accreditation is the result of a series of challenging, comprehensive
evaluation processes that prove that Teleradiology Solutions show extraordinary
commitment to provide safe, high quality healthcare and a willingness to be
measured against the highest standards of performance, said Dr Arjun Kalyanpur,
CEO, Teleradiology Solutions.
Explaining the entire accreditation process of JCAHO, Dr
Sunita Maheshwari, director, Teleradiology Solutions said, JCAHO accreditation
has three phases. In the first phase, a company applies for accreditation and
submits the required documents. In the second phase, JCAHO supervisors do a
spot check on the institutes processes, infrastructure and other parameters.
If the institute passes the second phase, they are given a gold seal. The third
phase is an on-going phase, where there can be random spot checks at any time.
When asked about the cost involved in getting accredited, Dr Maheshwari said,
Actual cost for hospitals can be from 70,000 USD to 1,20000 USD. For non-hospitals,
its 20,000 USD to apply. We spend 20,000 USD to apply and another 20,000
USD to upgrade our procedures. We had applied for accreditation last September
and had asked for an expedited process. Though regular route is two years, we
passed it in one year.
Teleradiology Solutions, established in 2002, provides teleradiology
services to hospitals around the globe, which includes interpretation of all
non-invasive imaging studies, namely CT, MRI, ultrasound, nuclear medicine studies
and digitised X-rays via teleradiology (remote interpretation) from its ready
facility in Bangalore.
The company provides subspecialty consultations in cardiovascular
imaging to hospitals in India, including Narayana Hrudayalaya.
The US Joint Commission is an independent, non-profit organisation,
and is the United States predominant body for setting standards and accreditation
in healthcare. It evaluates and accredits more than 15,000 healthcare organisations
and programs in the United States and is widely recognised for its role in developing
standards and performance measures for healthcare delivery organisations.
