PD Hinduja Hospital reates awareness on Trans Radial Interventions
EHM News Bureau - Mumbai
PD Hinduja Hospital and Medical Research has introduced the concept of Radial
Lounge procedure, a latest technology in cardiology. In order to educate budding
doctors on the benefits of this procedure, the hospital conducted the first
ever Trans Radial workshop for post graduate medical students. The workshop
was attended by over 50 doctors from across the state of Maharashtra.
Radial Lounge Procedure is a new concept where the procedure for coronary angiography
and angioplasty are performed through the forearm (as against the traditional
procedure through the groin).
The patient, after angiography is discharged within 1-2 hours and after a coronary
angioplasty is discharged in just 6-7 hours if he lives in the vicinity. The
patient spends this time relaxing in a specially designed Radial Lounge.
The workshop at the Hinduja Hospital had younger patients (below 55 years of
age) suffering from blockages of coronary vessels (coronary artery disease)
on whom coronary angioplasty (opening up of the blockages) was performed through
the forearm (radial route), which couple of years ago was performed through
the groin (femoral route).
The forearm technique (radial) basically offers comfort to the patient in form
of early mobilization and wellbeing, which is not possible via the groin route
(femoral).
Dr Rajesh Rajani, head of cardiology at PD Hinduja Hospital who conducted this
workshop, said, The Radial Lounge Procedure is the latest technology that
offers great convenience to the patients as against the traditional procedures.
PD Hinduja Hospital has always been ahead in implementing new technologies in
order to provide comfortable, convenient and quality healthcare.
This concept is patient friendly in so far as the patient experiences
virtually no pain during the procedure as compared with the traditional procedure
done through the groin. It is less invasive, less time consuming and less expensive
which makes it more convenient since it involves no hospital stay. This is one
of the latest technologies introduced and will soon replace the traditional
procedure used until now he opined.
