Last month consequent to recommendations of the state human
rights commission, the Maharashtra government
decided to allow relatives to visit patients in the ICUs by
issuing rules in the form of guidelines to be implemented
by state, civic and trust-run hospitals with the final say
in its implementation vesting with the hospital administrations.

The recent lynching of a rapist and extortionist by women
in the premises of a court in Nagpur as a protest against
sustained inaction of the police and judicial machinery has
opened a public debate on the justification of such public
action.
