Siemens introduces C arm IITV system with 3D imaging

EHM News Bureau - Mumbai

Siemens has introduced Siremobil Iso-C 3D, a mobile C arm system with 3D imaging capability in the operation theatre. The first Siremobil Iso-C 3D has been installed in Sushrushah Hospital, Nagercoil, Tamil Nadu.

It is considered as a global innovation in the area of orthopaedic surgeries that allows surgeons to get three-dimensional images during surgical procedures. The use of 3D MPR (multi planar reconstruction) imaging dramatically increases the levels of accuracy and safety during surgeries, thereby reducing the risk of repeat surgery and providing increased patient comfort.

A mobile C-arm IITV system is used during surgery for image-guided interventions or minimally invasive procedures.

In orthopaedic surgery, it is specifically used in complicated cases such as repositioning dislocated bone fragments, placing pedicle screws in the spine or positioning osteosynthetic material.

Conventional mobile C-arms that are in use today provide only two-dimensional (2D) imaging often leaving surgeons needing more information to assess and confirm the accuracy of their surgeries. This entails a Computed Tomography (CT) or Magnetic Resonance (MR) scanning before and after surgeries, which also increases treatment cost and inconvenience of transportation for a patient. For medical practitioners, this often means a huge additional investment.

With the Siremobil Iso-C 3D C-arm IITV system, the surgeon is also able to combine three-dimensional (3D) image acquisition and navigation capability in the operation theatre itself, and match data automatically. This increases the accuracy of the operation, and streamlines workflow considerably.

Said D Ragavan, executive vice president, Medical Solutions Division, Siemens Ltd, “With the Siremobil Iso-C 3D mobile C-arm from Siemens, a surgeon would be able to achieve a manifold increase in accuracy during surgery. This equipment will also lead to overall reduction in the cost of treatment for patients.”

The key features of the Siremobil Iso-C 3D are generating 3D volume data set along with multiplanar reconstruction of images, provision of excellent results at minimum dosage (50 per cent lesser dosage compared to conventional systems) and allowing direct surgical navigation based on intra-operatively generated 3D images.

The benefits are increased accuracy and saves on CT or MR examinations for confirmation, minimal repositioning of patient required, minimum dose compared to conventional systems, and hence enhanced safety to patient and overall treatment will be more cost effective.
