Students
disgruntled as medical and engineering entrance exam
clash
EHM
News Bureau - Mumbai
The declaration of May 11 as the date for the entrance
exams of D Y Patil Medical College, Mahatma Gandhi Institute
of Medical Sciences, Wardha and the All India Entrance
Exam Institute for Engineering has evoked resentment
among students who were aspiring to appear for all the
three exams.
Said an aggrieved student on conditions of anonymity,
"Generally we decide to opt for engineering or
medicine after seeing the result. Even within CET we
chose colleges after the results. Now we have to select
before appearing for the exam. We feel betrayed."
The resentment is more so as students have paid more
than Rs 1,000 to buy the application forms for each
of the exams. "This is the first time such a chaos
has happened. The authorities should have a meeting
and re-schedule the exams," opined a professor
of a government medical college.
Dr Nandita Palshetkar, trustee of D Y Patil Medical
College said, "It has been brought to my notice
that our exam dates are clashing. But now it is too
late to change the dates. We would not change the dates."
D Y Patil which has been given deemed university status
last year, would be conducting its entrance exam for
the 100 seats for the first time.
"In
spite of the clashing of the dates, we are expecting
that more than 1,000 students would appear for the tests,"
said Dr Palshetkar. Earlier the entrance exam of the
All Indian Institute of Medical Sciences and Maharashtra
Common Entrance Test (MCET) were clashing on June 1.
On April 11, the exam of MCET was re-scheduled to be
held on May 7.
