A number of institutions have understood the need for
professionally trained managers in the changing healthcare
industry and have begun imparting training to aspiring
healthcare professionals.
Most of these programs are designed to enable students
to use appropriate management tools and manage complex
healthcare organizations effectively. One such course
is the Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital and Health Care
Management conducted by the Symbiosis Centre of Health
Care, Pune.
In order to help health care professionals understand
the letter of the law and their rights, the Symbiosis
Centre of Health Care (SCHC) established a Medico Legal
Cell in 1997. This offers advice to doctors who have,
or are under threat of, a potential litigation. SCHC
has also started a one year distance learning Postgraduate
Diploma course in Medico legal Systems specially designed
for doctors, nurses and senior hospital administrators
so that they will understand the intricacies of medico
legal problems and be more cautious while dealing with
patients. Doctors, nurses and hospital administrators
having passed this course have a good chance of getting
jobs in hospital administration departments, grievance
re-dressal cells and public relations departments of
corporate hospitals.
SCHC is holding a national seminar in Hospital and Health
Care Management and Medico Legal Systems at Symbiosis,
Pune, on 10 and 11 of May 2003 wherein current issues
in both fields will be discussed by advocates, doctors
and senior managers in the hospital, insurance and pharmaceutical
industries. The seminar is open to anyone interested
in aspects of medical litigation and health care management.
