Apollo Gleneagles to be the healthcare hub of SE Asia

EHM News Bureau - Kolkata

Apollo Hospitals Group kicked off its first hospital of the eastern region in Kolkata recently. The 325-bedded multispecialty Apollo Gleneagles Hospital is being jointly promoted by the Apollo Hospitals Group and Singapore based Parkway Group Healthcare. ’Gleneagles’ is the international brand name of Parkway Group Healthcare.

Built at investment of Rs 210 crore, the hospital will provide treatment facilities in over 50 specialties and holds the promise to become the central healthcare hub for Bangladesh, Myanmar and Bhutan.

The hospital will be fully operational in three phases. In the first phase, the hospital with 100 beds and key medical facilities has become operational. In the next phase, the hospital will be upgraded to 245 beds and finally by January 2003, the hospital will be fully functional with 325 beds and all the treatment facilities.

The hospital combines both Apollo’s and Parkway Group Healthcare’s model of providing quality healthcare facilities with allegiance to the most stringent world standards. Dr Prathap Reddy, chairman, Apollo Hospitals said, “We will set up an Institute College of Nursing and one more for health technology in the hospital complex. This should happen in the next couple of years at an investment of Rs. 5-7 crore.”

Dr Reddy added that the group in addition to the hospital plans to set up 2 more Apollo Healthcare & Lifestyle clinics in the city and at least 10-15 in the eastern region. The clinics will be set up by its wholly owned subsidiary Apollo Health & Lifestyle Ltd.
