Metropolis partners Medicine Shoppe to expand collection

EHM New Bureau - Mumbai

Medicine Shoppe India, the world largest family pharmacy chain with more than 1450 outlets spread over 12 countries, and the Metropolis Laboratories, have joined hands to provide world class medical diagnostic services to customers. The Medicine Shoppe outlets would be utilised by the Metropolis Laboratory as its collection centres. Over 1,000 tests ranging from oncology to genetics, molecular biology to immunoassays will be available at Medicine Shoppe outlets under the collaboration.

The franchises that works for Medicine Shoppe would also be utilised by Metropolis to collect samples from nursing homes, hospitals and pathological labs. The collaboration is for a period of three years initially, and is extendable thereafter by mutual consent.

The collaborations starts with a five-to-six Medicine Shoppe outlets at Pune as pilot project, and if successful would spread to other parts of India. Said Mr Viraj Gandhi, MD, Medicine Shoppe India,"The synergy is excellent since both companies are committed to excellence in healthcare. With the tie-up in place, economical world class diagnostic technique services will be available even in remote and rural areas, where such things are a rarity." Dr Sushil Shah, MD, Metropolis Laboratories added,"People wont have to worry about the coming all the way to Mumbai for comprehensive diagnosis. Apart from the cost, the tie-up will also save them a lot of anxiety, since quality reports would be available to them quickly."When asked whether setting up collection centre in remote places would have its toll on patients paying more, Dr G S K Velu, Metropolis Laboratory, said,"In fact, we are trying to standardize the pricing system of all the collection centres."
