3M opens Center for Excellence to promote CME

In
an effort to facilitate knowledge sharing among healthcare
professionals in the country, Birla 3M Health Care launched
Asias first Center for Excellence, a platform for
Continuing Medical Education. The Center located at the
companys Innovation Center at Bangalore, will cater
to the growing needs of keeping healthcare professionals
updated on advances and changes in the healthcare segment
and improve medical practice.
Said
Dr A B Maalaka Raddy, Minister for Medical Education,
Karnataka government, CME programmes of this kind
will update medical professionals on the standard of practice
with new techniques and knowledge in medical science.
It is essential to organise several such programmes in
India. Government hospitals too should update themselves
with these ongoing advancements and participate in such
programmes. The CME curriculum will cover key areas
often overlooked in healthcare education such as: prevention
of hospital acquired infections, trauma care, wound management,
surgical skills, waste disposal management, etc to keep
physicians, nursing and paramedical staff and other medical
professionals of ongoing advancements in medical sciences.
Speaking on the occasion, Lee Kennedy, managing director
of Birla 3M said, "Healthcare is a key focus area
for Birla 3M in India. This new educational platform is
an opportunity for exchange of knowledge among healthcare
professionals."
The
Center has the expertise and support of an advisory board
consisting of reputed medical professionals and hospital
administrators who are independent from the company and
will advise on curriculum, content and faculty for the
CME courses. Each course is designed on specific needs
of the relevant participating group and successful participants
will be awarded Certificates of Credit. Srinivas Raman,
Manager, Medical Division of Birla 3M while speaking to
EHM said, "It is essential for medical and dental
fraternity to understand contemporary and relevant issues.We
will also provide library services for medical professionals.
We plan to hold two such programmes every month focussing
on the southern part of the country initially and plan
to roll out to other cities in the country shortly,"
he said. |
