Teaching institutions to follow ethical norms of animal use
In an endeavor to continue a meaningful use of animals for the purpose of teaching and research and ensure that animals are procured, maintained and treated as per guidelines of Government of India and CPCSEA (Committee for the Purpose of Control and Supervision of Experiments of Animals), the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Karnataka, has issued a notification to all colleges and institutions.

The Centre has decided to boost the allocation to healthcare segment during the Tenth Plan.

IMA president obtains stay in medical negligence case
The national president (elect) of the Indian Medical Association (IMA), Dr P V George has obtained a stay order, after being given a sentence of one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 in a case of medical negligence that resulted in the death of a woman patient at a private nursing home in Kannur in 1997.
