The
concept of positive healthcare is fast catching on the Indian mind.
People dont just want to live longer, they want to be healthy
as well. In an effort to help the senior citizens of the country
achieve this, the Corporate Physicians International, whose Indian
chapter is based in Chennai recently unveiled their Senior Citizens
Product.
The product is basically a health check-up package. Neeraja Shetty,
country manager, CPI, claims that this product is pro-active in
nature, unlike the others that are reactive. Under a reactive
program the cardholder comes to us only when are sick or need some
medical treatment. But in a proactive program a person need not
be sick to avail the benefits offered by the program, explains
Shetty.
CPIs modules involve regular health check ups. This referral
services company has developed a module that is friendly to the
target audience. CPI also promises to offer general practitioners
for house calls, door delivery of medicines over a phone call, diagnostic
services at home, simplified and priority admission at hospitals,
assistance in emergencies, special discounts in select hospitals
and appointments with leading consultants.
An individuals medical check-up details are stored in the
computer in a web-enabled form thereby enabling the client to check
on his results from his residence or place of stay anywhere in the
world. The cardholder is then put into a respective program or module
that suits him best. Depending on the health conditions of
a particular client and the medical advice procured by our experienced
physicians we place the clients under different modules, explains
Shetty.
CPI follows a set protocol for the Senior Citizens Product. During
the first examination all cardholders are required to undertake
a haeomogram, lipid profile, ECG and a GTT. If the results are normal
then the client is given a regular opthal exam, three additional
home visits by the physician to check the BP and a year end consultation
at the hospital. If the client is said to have hypertension, the
product offers an alternate monthly visit by the physician, six
BP check ups, two ECG checks, one lipid profile, one liver unction
test and one ophthalmic consultation at a hospital. For a diabetic
client, the product offers alternate monthly visit by physician
with BP and diabetic check, one ECG check, one liver function or
lipid profile and one ophthalmic consultation at hospital. For a
client with a cardiac problem the product promises three lipid profiles,
three ECG, one ophthalmic exam at hospital and one tread mill if
needed. Offered at a rate of Rs 5000 per annum, CPI is promoting
the brand through telemarketing. The program started in Chennai
hopes to hit the other metros where the companys services
are available - Delhi, Bombay, Chennai, Bangalore and Hyderabad.
The cardholders have local call access from any part of India through
a toll free number. CPI also helps out the clients with a medical
insurance cover if asked for by the client at no extra charge than
the amount to be paid to the insurance company.
Speaking on the scope of referral services Neeraja asserts, I
think if you look at the whole industry there is a huge potential
because out of a billion people the number of organisations running
these services are only a handful. The demand is much more than
the supply available at the moment. Even in Chennai we hope to have
at least another 10,000 database in the coming year. We intend to
have this model in every metro.
CPI was conceived in 1998 by a group of eminent physicians from
around the world.
Headquartered in Singapore they started operations in India in March
2001. They are a global healthcare facilitation company that provide
a network connecting individuals with quality medical institutions
and medical related services. CPI offers their services through
local offices and call centres, staffed with call handlers called
the Patient Care Managers (PCMs). The PCMs are networked globally
using a VPN and are operational 24 hours a day and seven days a
week.
