Bhatia Hospital inaugurates renovated ob-gyn department
EHM News Bureau - Mumbai

The Bhatia General Hospital recently inaugurated its renovated maternity and gynaecology wards and related facilities. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Vijai Kumar, medical director of the hospital noted that though different services pertaining to obstetrics and gynaecology have been offered at the hospital all this while, these services are now brought under one roof and provided as a package to the patients. This would make it easier for the consultants, staff as well as the patients, he added.

The ob-gyn department is well equipped with electronic fetal monitor and facilities for ultrasonography, doppler studies and specialised laboratory tests. It also has an AC labour room complex. A state-of-the-art endoscopy OT will enable procedures like diagnostic laparoscopy, hysteroscopic evaluation of infertility, treatment of ob-gyn problems like menorrhagia, chronic pelvic pain, ectopic pregnancy, fibroids, endometriosis, etc. Most importantly, it has the services of 11 renowned ob-gyn consultants and five laparoscopic surgeons.

One of the highlights of the department is a well-equipped neonatal ICU. With this, it is possible to save a new born even of just 31 weeks or weighing 900 gms, the consultants opined. It is all the more important to save such babies as today women prefer having just two children, remarked one consultant. A high risk pregnancy unit would help manage difficult deliveries, Dr Podar, medical superintendent, informed.

Bhatia Hospital performs around 600-700 deliveries in a year and with the advanced unit, the hospital expects an increase in its work load. The new wards have been upgraded at a cost of Rs 45 lakh donated by Sheth Jamnadas Tanna Charitable Trust. Besides good infrastructure and equipment, Bhatia Hospital takes the pride in its kind attitude towards patient. “Moreover, though we provide best facilities, the cost is affordable to middle-class and poor people,” Dr Podar noted.
