Seminar on ‘Computer applications to hospitals and healthcare’

The Indian Society of Health Administrators (ISHA) is organising a national seminar on ‘Computer applications to hospitals and healthcare’ between November 26-29, 2001 at Bangalore.

The seminar is being organised keeping in view the emerging scenario and role of computerisation in management and decision making in healthcare institutions.

Says Dr Ashok Sahni, prof and hon. executive director, ISHA, Bangalore and co-ordinator of the seminar, “India is moving rapidly towards the 21st century competing successfully with other industrially and technologically advanced countries in the world. With liberalisation and globalisation of the Indian economy there is urgent need for healthcare institutions to become efficient, reduce costs and manage available resources more effectively for quality assurance and patient satisfaction.”

“All categories of hospitals, corporate, private, voluntary, government and industrial hospitals would have to gear up their systems for efficiency, effectiveness, quality assurance and cost reductions,” he adds.

ISHA’s seminar will help the administrators and professionals of healthcare understand computer applications, and manage resources to meet the healthcare needs of the growing population. Dr Sahni believes that efficiency of the hospitals and health systems depends a great deal on the management of information, reduction of costs and a rational decision-making in clinical and administrative fields. To achieve these objectives, health systems and institutions are being computerized in the government, private, corporate and industrial sector.

Besides creating awareness on the use of computers in hospital, the seminar will also help to understand the nature and operations of computers, to understand the problems and guidelines in the acquisition and utilisation of computer resources, to understand the areas of applications of computers, to understand the benefits of computer applications in patient care, clinical and diagnostic service, operational efficiency, cost reduction, medical education and training.

The seminar will deal with health policy, achievements and emerging needs; management problems of hospitals and health institutions; present status of information system and future requirements; decision support systems in health care requirement; information system for use of computers; applications of computers to administration, patient care, medical education, professional training, development of medical records and materials management.

Noted professionals and administrators from India and abroad will serve as faculty. Extensive interactions will be provided with the manufacturers and distributors of computer support systems.

The seminar is open to professionals and administrators of hospitals and health systems from government, private and missionary institution; principals and deans of medical and health professional training institutions, health and hospital consultants, systems experts and consultants in computer training, consultancy and sales organisations, senior faculty from health management training institutions.
